Mr. Ma Tianqi is my older schoolmate. During the studying time in Luxun Academy of Fine Arts, he was chairman of Student Union and we were impressed on his working enthusiasm. Tianqi is an honest person with deep affections to his hometown. After graduation, he should have taught in mother school due to his outstanding achievements. While he obeyed the orgnization returning back to his hometown and devoted himself to the mass cultrual work. During the priod, lots of works were done and many literature and art talents were cultured which are all attributed to him. After the busy work, Tianqi did not give up pursuing art. He loves painting very much so as to he can overcome more difficulties to create with brushes. Certainly, the contents of most of his works are not far from the life around, because he thinks life is close relative to the art. He is cultured by artistic tradition and spirit of Luyi to step on the creative road Art for People. The works created by him, whether New Year Pictures, Publicity Pictures, Strip Pictures or Chinese Painting, are all full of funky regional, which is close to his long-term ground-level working time and familiar with ordinary life, requirement of spirit culture. Tianqi is a local artist growing up from the black land and he has pure feelings for the land, people and life. His works are created with rich feelings and in a placid mood, which further form a simple and unadorned painting style. Tianqi is good at painting chickens. He is different from others who paint it as a job, while Tianqi treats it as his artistic life transmitting natural intelligence and spirit, decorating and praising people life with harmonious and auspicious pictures, which is his truest affections as an artist. Tianqi can express artistic-conception and interest by drawing chickens, which is different from others. In his works, harmonious and happy keynote are fully expressed and stable age is extolled which makes his affections revealed. Liaoning art has presented a good developing trend in the great process of new China for almost fifty years, which has close relation with pursuits and efforts of the artists, dedicating them to art, with intense sense of mission and responsibility. They are backbones of constructing the mansion of Liaoning art. Mr. Ma Tianqi from Haicheng, south of Liaoning is such an artist actively working in Liaoning painting career, silently taking part in basic art popularization for many years, with excellent personality and character. I have known Tianqi for more than forty years. As an outstanding cultural worker, he has painted large number of New Year Pictures, Publicity Pictures and Strip Pictures. From both the contents and the forms, the works he created are welcomed by broad masses. His art is based on the realism presented in his creature, experiencing life and coming from life. The art regulation sounds easily but which is full of his deep affections to the people, nature and country. This year it happens to be established the 70th Anniversary, Tianqi Painting Chickens certainly becomes teacher Mas homework presented to his mother schoolLuxun Academy of Fine Arts on her seventieth birthday. In the sixty years, he has been taking part in the mass art work at basic level and obeying the spiritual tradition of Luxun Art College self-consciously. It may be said he is a local painter, sweat mixing with ink. The spirits include patriotism spirit, collective spirit, professional dedication, putting the public before the private spirit (which is the spirit of devotion mentioned today), intensive research spirit, and the optimistic spirit with hard struggle. The spirits being carried forward with the public newborn in the last century, having encouraged several generations to struggle and to create the new China have the strength to penetrate the time, warm heart and light advanced road for the descendants of Chinese nation. The working enthusiasm of that generation makes me remember a popular movie song in the 1960s: Cherry has good taste but it is hard to be planted, which can not bloom without hard working. Happiness can not be obtained from the sky, the socialism must be realized by us. The movie is called The youngth in our village. Teacher Ma is like the young people in village loving his hometown and constructing his hometown. The only different is he uses brushes and others use hoes and pickaxes. With his brush, he decribes the hot time and records the labor, life and creations of the publics. So many people are encouraged and pleasured by his works! Just like the says from Mr. Wang Guan, chairman of Provincial Artists Association, that Ma Tianqis works from contents to forms are all chose the welcomed style, comprises his deep emotions to the people, the nation and the country. The works with funky regional not only have his artistic ideal realized but also have the belief of art for people kept, these art workers dedicating them to art, with intense sense of mission and responsibility are backbones of constructing the mansion of Liaoning art. They win the honor for Liaoning as a great art province. During the sixty years, teacher Ma has been an organizer and a leader of the public art and cultural activities in Haicheng area. He is a great painter, a great expect, an able person, a professor for the publics; he is a talent, a versatile man with enriched practical experience, the most understand the need of publics and loyalty to the propaganda cultural work of the Party literature and art cause, and an excellent mass art worker. He enlightens, educates, moves and lead broad masses to construct their new homeland and create their new life in concert with the form and strength of beauty. Such beauty is from life, is more beautiful than the real life pursued in life, but which must be the real beauty felt by people. Life is happy then picture is beautiful; life is hard and there still is the miss and expect of beauty; looking forward the life better and better and drawing pictures with the beautiful wishes. The pictures are from the life, you, me, our daughters and their sons all being included. Teacher Ma draws beauty and beautiful life for the publics in all his life. Whether happiness or worry, he is with the broad publics. Welcomed by the publics is the highest standard of his creation, which regulates and also forms his aesthetic horizon in object, the endoplasm of which is vivid, fresh, plateful and strong beauty and is also identified by the group, being like the endless grass on land, the never wither flowers on mountains. In one sentence, it is natural beauty. Fourth, the creative genres with diversity show teacher Mas basic skills. The genres are just like weapons-swords, halberds, axes, etc held by the practicers. The basic skills of painters in basic level can be tested by the mastering and usage of the genres. Teacher Ma had painted many Publicity Pictures，New Year Pictures，Strip Pictures, Chinese Paintings and Watercolor Paintings and each painting has its own regulations. But the cultural workers in basic level are like a great doctor in a small rural hospital, who should be totipotent. He can deal with all the problems and handle everything. For the cultural propaganda work in basic level, today painting on the wall, tomorrow writing slogans; organizing activities, stage performances, yangge, stilt walk on festivals; performances, parades, expectations combining with the situations; spring ploughing, harvested last autumn, celebrating Spring Festival; learning from Dazai, earthquake relief, family planning, closed forest, patriotic public health campaign, all of which are all the works of teacher Ma. As a leader of cultural work, teacher Ma has to draw faster, better and newer than others! As a graduate student from Luxun Academy of Fine Arts, teacher Mas drawings represent the art level in this area. Teacher Ma has to adjust and organize the art strength in this area to achieve good performance in the whole province and nation. Teacher Ma signs to say: I am pushed by the era to this road. It is honored that I have never given up painting in the sixty years. I am a local painter. The expertise of the student from Fine Arts Academy is given full play in the vast world of the local cultural work. The strict training of basic skills makes him become mature in the academy. It must be particularly pointed out that many sketches and painting works of teacher Ma from late 1940s to early 1950s until 2007 are published as albumin the latter half part of the painting collection. From which, it is an unarguable fact that teacher Ma is an art worker with sturdy basic skills and comprehensive cultivation of painting.
